How to Interpret Your Saju Chart: A Beginner's Guide
The Structure of a Saju Chart
A Saju chart consists of four pillars (year, month, day, hour), each containing a Heavenly Stem on top and an Earthly Branch below. The eight characters created by these four pillars form the foundation of your reading. The Day Stem — the Heavenly Stem of your birth day — is considered your "Day Master" and represents your core self.
Reading the Day Master
Your Day Master tells you your fundamental elemental nature and your basic approach to life. A Jia Wood (甲) Day Master is characterized by directness, ambition, and a strong sense of personal integrity. A Ren Water (壬) Day Master is characterized by intelligence, adaptability, and a tendency to think on a grand scale. Each of the ten stems has a distinct archetypal character.
The Luck Pillars
Beyond the birth chart itself, Saju also includes a sequence of Luck Pillars — ten-year periods that overlay new energetic influences onto your natal chart. These luck pillars determine the timing of major life chapters: when you are likely to experience career breakthroughs, relationship milestones, or periods of challenge and consolidation.
